PEY - Junior Implementations Engineer

A lot of companies tout ‘social impact’, but at BiblioCommons we serve over 8 million diverse users each month by partnering with close to 200 public libraries in Canada, US, New Zealand and Australia. Libraries are more than just book stacks— they are public spaces that foster learning, connection, and community in an increasingly isolated world and Bibliocommons is bringing that community online with clever software that powers the world’s largest libraries. 

Today, we are looking for a Junior Implementations Engineer for a 12-16 month internship to assist in the implementation and integration of public library systems into the BiblioCommons social discovery platform. Successful candidates will use their technical and problem solving skills to ensure successful customer implementations and ongoing support including system upgrades, integration issues and feature rollouts. This role involves a combination of problem solving, strong debugging skills, data analysis and ad-hoc reporting. The candidate will also be contributing to our Core Platform codebase. Be prepared to communicate directly with libraries to gather requirements and ensure successful implementations and triage/resolution of customer issues.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Level 1 Support of the BiblioCommons core application
  • Analyze and gather specific requirements of individual library systems
  • Configure BiblioCommons to match customer requirements
  • Debugging/troubleshooting BiblioCommons application, integration & upgrade-related issues, and applying specific bug fixes as necessary
  • Performing ad-hoc reporting using SQL
  • Use of a detailed customer setup checklist to QA a successful implementation.
  • Working with Project Managers and libraries to ensure successful implementations for new customers
  • Preparing documentation and assistance in managing the company's internal and external knowledge bases

  • Great communication skills
  • Computer Science/Engineering program
  • Java programming experience or another Object-oriented language
  • A strong theoretical foundation in data structures and algorithms
  • Database, SQL and data analysis skills
  • Exposure to tools such as intellij idea, gradle, Junit
  • Basic computer networking knowledge (Connectivity issues, LANs, firewalls, etc.)
  • Knowledge of regular expressions

Bonus Points for:

  • Customer interaction experience
