PEY - Junior Platform Engineer

BiblioCommons is a Toronto based software company that builds SaaS solutions for public libraries. Located in the heart of the entertainment district at Spadina and Adelaide, we have a team of 70+ people that are passionate about making public libraries accessible, delightful and engaging.

Libraries are more than just book stacks— they are public spaces that foster learning, connection, and community in an increasingly isolated world and Bibliocommons is bringing that community online with clever software that powers the world’s largest libraries. 

Would you like to work for a company where your ideas and input will be a part of a team that is not just about forward thinking, but forward motion too?  We’re looking for a software engineer for a 16-month internship who is passionate about shipping elegant, high-performance web interfaces, and who takes pride in being part of an innovative team that is widely considered to be the industry leader.


  • Provide level 1 development support for the core product; includes debugging/troubleshooting complex issues and applying specific bug fixes as necessary
  • Assisting in activities related to continued high availability of the application stack
  • Developing/maintaining tooling including diagnostics aids & monitoring capabilities
  • Collaborate with a smart, passionate team to build powerful social discovery features


  • 2nd or 3rd year student that can demonstrate experience with, and a strong foundation in core Java and libraries
  • A strong theoretical foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering best practices
  • Demonstrated experience debugging/troubleshooting complex application stacks
  • Knowledge of server application development methodologies in Java
  • Solid understanding of databases, cache servers, search engines, and application servers
  • Experience debugging and optimizing large-scale, multi-threaded systems an asset
  • Knowledge of Ruby an asset
  • Systems knowledge an asset
  • Pursuing Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
